Ambassador Abdul Hakim Atarud had a meeting with Mr. Song Sang-hyun, President of Korean Committee for UNICEF. Over the meeting, the Afghan Ambassador requested for assistance to the Afghan students in need of stationery and equipment for the newly opened schools.

After the outbreak of war in the Korean peninsula, the UNICEF provided assistance to South Korean children for about 43 years. In 1994, the South Korean Committee for UNICEF was established. Now the country is a major donor to UNICEF after the US and Japan.
