KABUL – Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Salahuddin Rabbani received the Turkmen Minister of Foreign Affairs and Ministers’ Cabinet Deputy Chairman H.E. Rashid Meredov in his office to discuss important areas of bilateral cooperation.

The Turkmen foreign minister and his accompanying delegation arrived in Kabul for a day’s visit to discuss issues of mutual importance and interest.

The two sides met this noon and discussed a wide range of bilateral issues.

Foreign Minister Rabbani expressed contentment over the strengthening ties between the two countries.  He thanked the friendly country’s President H.E. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow for paying special attention to the regional mega projects, namely the TAPI gas pipeline, as well as the TAP electro-power extension which has secured power in the bordering provinces.

The Afghan Foreign Minister also appreciated the highlights of President Berdimuhamedow’s statement at the 73rd UN General Assembly on Afghanistan’s geo-strategic importance in regional trade and connectivity. He recalled with appreciation the recent 7th Joint Economic Commission meeting hosted by Turkmenistan in Ashgabat.

Later in the day, the two countries’ delegates headed by their respective foreign ministers conducted the 5th Joint Security Cooperation Commission meeting to discuss issues of mutual importance, including measures in the bordering regions.    

The commission meeting was followed by the signing of a Protocol between the two countries’ foreign ministers.

Meeting with the Honorable Mr. Chung, Sung Heon, President of the Korea Saemaul Undong Center. At this meeting both sides emphasized on the importance of collaboration between rural development projects of Afghanistan and the Saemaul Undong Center as well as sharing knowledge and experience with the Citizen Charter Program of Afghanistan.

Capacity building, Training programs and the expansion of technical assistance of Saemaul Undong Center with piolet projects which initiated by MRRD-Afghanistan in Meyanshakh and Monara districts of Parwan province, were the other topic that has been discussed.

Meeting with Hon. Mr. Kwang Kim, Country Representative of the Asia Foundation, Korea. During the meeting two sides discussed a range of issues, such as capacity building for Afghan civil servants, supporting media trainings, women empowerment, vocational trainings and possibly launching joint trade and cultural exhibition.
