We offer our sincere condolences due to the demise of the former first lady of the Republic of Korea Lee Hee-ho, to her family and the people of Republic of Korea. During her life, Lee Hee-ho extensively worked for ensuring peace and welfare in the Korean Peninsula and during her numerous trips to Pyongyang, played a key role in paving the way for peace dialogue between South&North Korea. Honoring her valuable service for realizing peace, Afghanistan's Foreign Ministry reiterates its desire for the success of the peace process in the Korean Peninsula.

On May 20, 2019 Ambassador Abdul Hakim Atarud called on the Director General of International Organization Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea H.E. Ki-Hwan Kweon. During the meeting, they have discussed the Afghan-Korea relations in multinational arena and Afghan Ambassador requested for the support of the Republic of Korea to Afghanistan in international organizations.

Meeting with SRAP

On 17 May 2019 Ambassador Kim Young Chae, Special Representative of Republic of Korea for Afghanistan and Pakistan paid a courtesy call to Ambassador Atarud. Afghan Ambassador congratulated Ambassador Kim on his new assignment as SRAP and expressed his happiness of the existing friendly relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Atarud while extended gratitude for the continued support of the Republic of Korea to Afghanistan, appreciated the stands of the Republic of Korea for recognizing the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process.

Ambassador Abdul Hakim Atarud had courtesy meeting with honorable Dr. HAHM Chaibong, President of ASAN Institute. Ambassador Atarud discussed with ASAN's leadership concerning prospect of relations between ASAN INSTITUTE and similar institutions in Afghanistan, visiting scholars programs and collaboration in pormoting bilateral academic relationships of Afghanistan and Korea.

ASAN Institute is one of the leading Think Tank of Foreign Affairs and Inter-Korean relations.

On April 04, 2019 Ambassador Abdul Hakim Atarud met with Dr. Ryan Goessl, Executive/Conductor of Camarata Music. In the meeting Ambassador Atarud briefed Dr. Ryan about the cultural heritage of Afghanistan and Afghan music. Launching the potential joint cultural and music projects in Korea for more collaboration were discussed.

Ambassador Atarud paid a courtesy visit to honorable Mr. Park, Kyung-seo, the President of Korean Red Cross and his team on April 11 2019. He thankfully highlighted the humanitarian assistance of this organization to Afghanistan .

To seek support of Korean Friends for the victims of recent floods in different parts of the country and providing basic assistance to School Children, Ambassador Atarud briefed the KRC about relief situation for the victims of recent flood in the country and stressed on the continued support of our international friends in educational sectors of Afghanistan.

Mr. Park, while appreciating the visit of Afghan Ambassador; made commitment of US$ 30,000 from the Korean Red Cross as Solidarity Donation to Afghanistan. This donation will be channelized to the concern agencies to be utilized in priority areas inside Afghanistan.

Meeting with NEI and KAFA

Honorable Mr. Steven Kwon, Ph.D, President of Nutrition & Education International and Mr. Kang, Hun Sok, President of Korea Afghan Friendship Association paid a courtesy call to His Excellency Abdul Hakim Atarud, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the Republic of Korea.

During the meeting range of issue such as nutrition, Soybean culture and cultivation in Afghanistan, promoting friendships between Korea and Afghanistan and opportunities in the trade and investment have been discussed.

Ambassador Artaud appreciated Dr. Kwon’s efforts on introducing seed of Soy to Afghanistan and stressed on future cooperation between these institutions and the Afghan Embassy in Seoul for facilitating the Korean private sectors involvement and investment in the country.

On March 20, 2019 Ambassador Abdul Hakim Atarud, met with the Director General of Southwest Asia and Pacific Division of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. During the meeting, there was a common ground at the discussions which covered bilateral issues of common interest such as holding the first round of political consultations, arranging the president's state visit, increasing the number of current scholarships and emphasizing on investment in mining sector of Afghanistan.
