Medical Aid to Afghanistan

Ansan City -January 9th, 2021, Ambassador Abdul Hakim Atarud attended the shipment ceremony of Medical Aid to Afghanistan, along with counselor Mr. Yasir Karimi.
Following the hard work of the embassy, this medical aid has been donated by the Global Life Sharing NGO to the Ministry of Public Health of Afghanistan.
Ambassador Atarud expressed his gratitude to GLS for materializing this donation in this important time period and requested the continued supports for the Afghan people.
Due to the coronavirus restrictions for indoor gatherings, the program was arranged outdoor. The package will arrive in Kabul in February 2021.

KABUL – As per the decree of the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, and to strengthen human rights advocacy and respond to national and international concerns with regards to human rights issues in Afghanistan, and in accordance with the provision of the Constitution and the Afghan government's strategy to protect the defenders of human rights, a "Joint Commission for the Protection of Human Rights" is established under the chairmanship of Professor Sarwar Danish, the Second Vice President.

The Presidential Decree states that with the aim of providing the necessary and effective ground for the protection of human rights issues in Afghanistan and the fulfillment of the Afghan government's commitments to human rights issues and the protection of human rights defenders and activists, the establishment of a Joint Commission for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders chaired by Professor Sarwar Danish, the second vice president, has been approved.

According to the decree, the Commission will be membered by the Attorney General, Minister of Justice, Minister of Interior, Minister of Women Affairs, Head of Independent Human Rights Commission of Afghanistan, Director General of National Security, Director General of the Independent Directorate of Local Governance, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Representative of the Supreme Court, Representative of the Legal, Legislative, and Judicial Bureau of the Administrative Office of the President and representatives of other relevant departments if necessary and approved by the Chairman of the Commission.

Preparing the Commission's implementation procedure, determining the Commission's work priorities, drafting a joint plan with non-governmental organizations in the field of human rights to outline the mechanism for protecting human rights defenders, obtaining the opinions of domestic and foreign human rights advocates and funders, as well as addressing the recommendations, plans and complaints of human rights defenders are among the goals and priorities of the Commission.

The Secretariat of the "Joint Commission for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders" is the onus of the Independent Human Rights Commission.

Meeting with SRAP

Seoul- December 15, 2020, Ambassador Abdul Hakim Atarud, had a courtesy call with Mr. Lee Kyung-Chul, the Special Representative of the Republic of Korea (SRAP) for Afghanistan and Pakistan.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the issues of bilateral relations, ongoing peace efforts in Afghanistan, and Political Consultations between the MOFA Korea and MFA Afghanistan.
Seoul, December 07, 2020, Ambassador Abdul Hakim Atarud and Mr. M. Yasir Karimi, counselor of the Embassy, paid a courtesy call to Honorable Mr. Young Gil Song, Chairman of Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the issues of the ongoing peace process in Afghanistan, the establishment of Inter-parliamentary Friendship Groups between the two countries, and bilateral issues between Afghanistan and Korea.
Seoul- November 19, 2020, Mr. Jung Hoon Hur, Executive Managing Director of Pulmuone Company, and his team visited the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and met with Ambassador Abdul Hakim Atarud.
Ambassador Atarud briefed the Pulmuone Company about the existence of the organic agriculture products and investor favorable business environment in Afghanistan. He emphasized that the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is committed to supporting the foreign and domestics investors and the country has abandon resources to make a profitable business. “most of the agriculture products are organic and unique with exclusive in its essence, such as grape, pomegranate, and dry fruits” said Ambassador Atarud.
The Pulmuone company Executive promised after the feasibility study will prepare the entry-strategy of their company for the Afghan markets.
Seoul – Honorable Mr. Choi Tae-ho, Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Korea, paid a courtesy call to Ambassador Abdul Hakim Atarud.
Ambassador Atarud congratulated Mr. Choi Tae-ho for his new assignment and wished him success during his stay in Afghanistan. Two sides also had a discussion about the prospects of the two countries' relations and how to strengthening the ties between the people and governments in various fields.
Seoul- November 18, 2020, The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Seoul is pleased to facilitate and signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on behalf of the Afghanistan Cancer Foundation (AFC) with the National Cancer Center (NCC) of the Republic Korea.
The Embassy is grateful for the valuable support and presence of honorable Ms. Kang Sun-woo, MP and member of the Health & Welfare Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea during the Signing Ceremony of this MOU.
Ambassador Abdul Hakim Atarud said in his remarks: “The purpose of this MOU is to collaborate on issues of policy advice and knowledge sharing in the area of fighting cancer in Afghanistan. I congratulate NCC on joining hands with the Afghans to better organize the AFC mandate in a cooperative effort on a strategy to accelerate the access of thousands of poor cancer patients to have a better health care system”.
The MOU will formalize collaboration between the two institutions on cancer research, organization of joint conferences, symposia, or other scientific meetings, exchange of information and materials for academic research and publications.
Ambassador Atarud also expressed his gratefulness for the generous and meaningful supports of the Republic of Korea made in different platforms of assistance for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Afghanistan.

attack on Kabul University

아프간은 어제 칠흙같은 어둠의 날을 보냈습니다. 카불대학교의 학생, 교수님들 그리고 직원들을 향한 테러리스트들의 야만적이고 잔인한 공격이 수많은 무고한 목숨을 빼았아갔습니다. 참으로 비극적인 일입니다. 가족과 사랑하는 사람을 잃은 분들께 애도를 표합니다.
이 비극을 추모하기위해, 전세계 아프간 대사관에서는 국기가 조기 계양될 것입니다. 11월3일은 카불대학교 테러에 사망한 영혼들을 기리는 국가적 추모의 날로 지정되었습니다.
 
Afghans witnessed one of the darkest days in their recent history. The barbaric and brutal attack by terrorists on students, teachers, and the staff of the Kabul University that claimed so many innocent lives, reflects the depth of this tragic incident.
On this tragic occasion, the Afghan National Flag will fly at half-mast across the country and at all diplomatic missions around the world. November 3rd would be the National day of mourning to pray for the souls of those martyred in the attack on Kabul University.
Our sympathy and prayers are with the families who lost their loved ones.

Meeting with SRAP

Seoul- October 29, 2020, Ambassador Abdul Hakim Atarud met Ambassador Kim Young Chae, Special Representative of the Republic of Korea for Afghanistan and Pakistan (SRAP).

Both sides discussed the mutually-interested issues, strengthening bilateral issues in various aspects as well as the peace process in Afghanistan.
